Ministry of Jesus (I)

Introduction: Jesus comes to the scene after a quiet life of 30 years. He prepares himself by taking baptism and the anointment of the Holy Spirit. He claimed complete victory over his temptations. For the next three and a half years, he moved around by doing God's will and wish!


Area of Operation:  The areas where Jesus did his ministry were the parts of Palestine, Galilee, Samaria, Judea, Syria, Decapolis. 



1. Possible location of the Transfiguration (Matthew 16:1-13); Jesus heals the epileptic child (Matthew 17:14-21; Mark 9:17-29; Luke 9:37-43)


2. Jesus heals the Canaanite woman's daughter (Matthew 15:21-28; Mark 7:24-30)


3. Site where Peter says Jesus is the Messiah (Matthew 16:13-20)


4. Jesus changes water to wine (John 2:1-11); Jesus heals the royal official's son (John 4:46-54)

Acts 10:38  - God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Historical Background:   During that period Palestine was under Roman control. Under the sovereignty of the emperor, King Herod ruled the province. But after the birth of Jesus. Herod died (BC. 4) After his death the Emperor divided the nation into three of Herod's sons, Archelaus, Antipas, and Philip. In A.D. 6, Archalos was removed from power, and Judea and Samaria were added to the Syrian province of the Roman empire. Since then, these regions were ruled by governors. Pontius Pilat was the fifth governor of this region. Galilee and Siria were under the control of Antipos and Itassia, Traconiti were controlled by Philip.


Four periods

The ministerial period of Jesus can be divided on the basis of the four Passover festivals.

1.  From baptism to the Passover of John 2: 13 a few months

2. John 2: 13 to the Passover in John 5:1

3. From the second Passover to the third one in John 6:4

4. From the third one to the last supper (John 13:1)
